What LAWIT is

LAWIT is a bulletin on the rules that affect doing business in Slovakia — from acts, regulations and official guidance. It explains them in plain language and gives a source for every statement. It is published in these parts:

  • Overview of changes — a register of adopted and planned changes to the rules, turned into deadlines and steps; each change comes with a short commentary.
  • The Law, Technology, Privacy and GDPR, and Business sections — explanatory articles with main points, the date of application, steps to take and sources.
  • Calculators and deadlines — annexes with decision procedures and checklists that run only in your browser.
  • The Crafts supplement — guides for craftspeople and folk makers at remesla.lawit.sk.

LAWIT shows no advertising, uses no affiliate links, accepts no payment for mentions and does not recommend specific service providers (such as digital postmen or cash registers).

Who prepares the bulletin

The content is prepared by LAWIT, and LAWIT is responsible for it. We do not sign articles with names or give titles, because no individual expert signs them. Nor do we claim that a lawyer or tax adviser has reviewed the texts.

Editorial desk: redakcia@lawit.sk.

Sources

Every statement about the law, a deadline, an amount or an obligation rests on a source. Primary sources come first: the Collection of Laws (Zbierka zákonov) and Slov-Lex, the Official Journal of the EU and EUR-Lex, and the websites of ministries, the Financial Administration, the Personal Data Protection Office, the State Veterinary and Food Administration (ŠVPS) and other authorities. Where the primary text was not available in full, we also use a secondary source (a professional portal, a law firm) and include it in the list of sources.

Our texts refer to specific provisions. At the first mention of an act there is a note number leading to its official text on Slov-Lex or EUR-Lex; the full list of sources is at the end of every article.

What we cannot verify, we do not publish. Where something is in flux — a bill, an unclear interpretation, missing guidance from an authority — we say so openly and mark it Proposal or Uncertain.

When a change enters the overview

  1. It concerns businesses, sole traders or employers in Slovakia.
  2. It has been verified in a primary source (an act in the Collection of Laws, a regulation in the Official Journal of the EU) or, where the primary text was not fully available, in at least two independent professional sources.
  3. We can establish the date and who is affected.

Status of entries

StatusMeaning
ComingAn adopted rule or a deadline in the future.
ChangedThe change already applies.
ProposalA proposal not yet adopted; it imposes nothing.
RecurringA regular deadline.

Status is always given by a word and the shape of a mark (■ ◆ ◇ ○); colour is only a supplement, so the pages can be read with colour vision deficiencies too.

What we left out

We did not add entries we could not verify — for example the exact status of some transitional provisions, or changes for which we had only one unofficial source.

The ‘law as at’ date

Every article, commentary and annex states the date as at which it describes the law (“Law as at …”). It means that we went through the sources as of that day — not that the rules cannot have changed since. All entries and articles in this issue were verified as at 12 October 2026. When a source changes, we update the entry and move the date forward.

Inaccuracies and how they are put right

If you find an inaccuracy, please write to redakcia@lawit.sk. Give the page address and the provision or source you are relying on.

  1. We check the report against the primary source.
  2. If it is confirmed, we amend the text and move the ‘law as at’ date forward.
  3. For a significant change (a different deadline, amount or obligation), we add a note about the amendment to the page.

List of significant amendments: none so far. The bulletin was published with the position as at 12 October 2026.

Notice: informational content, not legal advice

LAWIT’s articles, commentaries, overview of changes and annexes explain the rules in general terms and in plain language. They are not legal, tax, accounting or other professional advice and do not replace an assessment of a specific case.

  • The rules change. Every page shows the date on which we verified the sources.
  • Interpretations of the law can differ; what counts is the position of the competent authority or court.
  • The calculators and deadlines evaluate only the answers you enter, and they simplify. The result is not binding.
  • The binding text of legislation is in the Collection of Laws of the Slovak Republic (Slov-Lex) and in the Official Journal of the EU.
  • The English pages explain Slovak rules in English; they are not official translations. If in doubt, rely on the Slovak legal texts.

LAWIT is not responsible for decisions taken solely on the basis of its content. For important decisions, please contact a lawyer, a tax adviser, an accountant or the competent authority. LAWIT does not assess individual cases.

The English edition

The bulletin is written in Slovak first. The English pages are for foreigners who live, work or do business in Slovakia; they carry the same facts and rest on the same sources, and we add no legal claims in translation. Where an official Slovak term is what you will meet in real life — on a form, at an office or in a letter — we give the English and keep the Slovak in brackets the first time, for example “sole trader licence (živnosť)”. Most sources are in Slovak and are marked “(in Slovak)”.

History of the domain

The domain lawit.sk used to belong to a company with business and IT activities, and the subdomain remesla.lawit.sk hosted a catalogue of folk crafts. Today’s LAWIT is a new project and takes nothing over from the original content. We redirect old links only where genuinely related content exists; the rest return the status “410 — gone”.
