Changed1 May 2026

Obligation to accept cashless payment above €1

Anyone who records sales in eKasa must, from 1 May 2026, let customers pay without cash when the amount exceeds €1.

AWhat changed

A seller with the obligation to record sales must allow the customer to pay without cash if the sale exceeds €1 (Section 15 of Act No. 384/2025 Coll.). The original date of 1 March 2026 was moved to 1 May 2026.

BWhen

From 1 May 2026.

CWho it affects

  • All sellers who record sales in eKasa — including stallholders at markets and fairs and craftspeople working at the customer’s premises.

DWhat to do

  • Provide at least one cashless payment method (card terminal, mobile payment or QR payment).
  • If you sell out in the field, check internet coverage — the Act does not apply the obligation if there is no signal on site or the technical equipment for confirming the payment does not work.

Explanation

The obligation can be met without a traditional terminal, for example with a QR payment. The only exception is a loss of signal or failure of the technical means at the time of payment.

Breaches carry a fine of €500 to €15,000 (on first finding, a warning comes first).
